Reading the new Murakami a little late - I have had it on the shelf for a few months waiting for the right time to read it and only now do I notice the cover properly. It is rather stunning. So this, together with the fact that the book is rather heavy to read lying in bed, is the reason behind buying the book for the Kindle as well. I won't ruin the cover by leaving the book splatted pages down, or crease the dust jacket by stretching it to make a book mark. I am not blind to the fact that just as I get to the age where I should start perhaps to start leaving things behind, divesting myself and house of disparate and useless tat, I'm doubling up on books, electronic and hardback. To be fair I am getting rid of books as well, the ones that don't "delight" in that charming Maria Kondo phrase, stolen of course from William Morris. The cover of Killing Commendatore though - it is rather special.
This is all, maybe, a prelude to a new age of obsession.
Of course someone has already made a playlist of all the music referenced in Killing Commendatore but, and this is key, not in the order the music appears in the book. So I am making a more accurate playlist, phone and Spotify by my side.
